Derek Watson, Founding Partner

Derek is an experienced fractional CFO and business operator, with a particular focus on Seed to Series B VC-backed technology startups. His current and former client base includes early stage businesses in fintech, insuretech, proptech, B2B saas, ecommerce, life sciences and non-profits. He received his Chartered Accountant designation in 2008 and his MBA (IMD) in 2014. Derek is a founding partner of Scalepoint Advisors and leads the fractional CFO vertical. He is a practicing CFO with his own client portfolio, as well as overseeing numerous other Scalepoint CFO engagements in a coaching, mentoring and quality control capacity. Scalepoint clients highly value Derek’s strategic foresight, as well as his ability to roll up his sleeves and deliver results. Prior to starting Scalepoint, Derek cut his teeth at PricewaterhouseCoopers in the UK and Russia offices, before taking his first CFO role within Willis Towers Watson. He then studied his MBA at IMD in Switzerland after which he joined Amazon’s retail operation in the European headquarters in Luxembourg. After transferring to the US, Derek oversaw risk and operations for Amazon’s business invoicing and business lending divisions, and later joined the founding management team at Resolve, a Max Levchin backed B2B fintech saas and lending platform. Derek lives in Seattle with his wife and three children, and is an avid skier, pickleball player and aikidoist.

Jeffrey Zinn, Founding Partner

Mr. Zinn is an entrepreneur focused on the intersection of capital markets, technology, and specialty finance. In his thirty years in the finance industry, he has been involved in origination, trading and structuring, sales and marketing, capital raising and investing. Prior to starting Scalepoint Advisors and Scalepoint Capital, Mr. Zinn spent time in the asset management space, including four years at Flexpoint Ford, twenty years on the sell side at UBS, BofA and Jefferies, and a critical experience as the Head of Capital markets for a venture backed lending franchise lending platform, ApplePie Capital, where he led three capital transactions totally over $500mm and a strategic equity investment from a regional bank. Mr. Zinn is an investor and serves as an advisor to several fintech companies and is passionate about working with the next generation of financial service entrepreneurs, founders and investors. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from Boston University and a MBA from Columba Business School. Mr. Zinn holds series 7 and 63 licenses with FINRA.
